Spending time as a child in arid El Paso, she learned early about the critical importance of well-managed community resources – a lesson that still shapes her passion for making communities healthier, safer, and more livable.

Maria’s path has been intentionally eclectic. While earning a degree in Business Communications at the University of Texas at El Paso, she supported tournament operations for the PGA Tour and worked as a legal assistant to pay for college. This blend of communications, complex logistics, and regulatory insight now gives her a 360-degree view of policy, operations, and public engagement—skills she brings to municipal leaders as she turns complex infrastructure challenges into sustainable, revenue-positive solutions.

Committed to service beyond the workplace, Maria has served on the board of her local Habitat for Humanity, where she helps build homes and hope for families in need. Whether optimizing a utility rate structure or swinging a hammer at a build site, her guiding principle is the same: to make every community a better place to live.
