For years, the Roosevelt County Water Co-op in New Mexico relied on an aging manual metering system that made it difficult to track leaks, ensure accurate billing, or respond quickly to member concerns. Small leaks went unnoticed, monthly meter reads consumed valuable staff time, and the community was left without early warning when issues arose.
Introducing Metering as a Service (MaaS) changed everything. By utilizing a service to deliver a comprehensive smart metering upgrade, from installation to ongoing system maintenance, the Co-op gained access to modern technology designed specifically for reliability, precision, and long-term performance.
With new smart meters and advanced leak detection tools, the Co-op can now identify issues in near real time, notify members before their water usage spikes, and dramatically reduce wasted water. In just one year, the community saw tens of millions of gallons saved and a major shift from reactive service to proactive care.
What happened in Roosevelt County reflects a rising trend among utilities: leveraging modern solutions to enhance service, protect limited resources, and bring greater predictability to daily operations.
